History of the series
The Saber Marionette story is about androids that look like real girls, what makes them different from ordinary androids is that they act and feel like real humans. They are able to feel real human emotions because of their otome kairo. In general, it is a story of love, friendship and a marionette who is on her way to discover what it is to be human under the guidance of a guy who doesn’t seem to mind whether she’s made up of electronics.
- 1994 : Planning started. Started the radio drama “SM Girls Saber Marionette R” on Aniraji ” Manga no Mori Theater Akaho Satoru no Wanchatte SAY YOU! ” (Cultural Broadcasting). Started serialization of light novel “SM Girls Saber Marionette J” in the October issue of Monthly Dragon Magazine (Fujimi Shobo) .
- 1995 : Started “SM Girls Gaiden Saber Marionette Z” at “Anime V” (Gakken Kenkyusha). OVA “SM Girls Saber Marionette R” released. As with R, the radio drama “SM Girls Saber Marionette J” was started in “Polykero no Wanchatte SAY YOU!”.
- 1996 : TV animation “Saber Marionette J” is broadcast. Started serialization of the comic version “Saber Marionette J” in “Monthly Comic Dragon”.
- 1997 : OVA “Mata Mata Saber Marionette J” released again.
- 1998 : TV animation “Saber Marionette J to X” is broadcast.
- 1999 : Completed light novel “SM Girls Saber Marionette J”.
- 2000 : Short story light novel “Private Oedo Gakuen Kokiki” was announced in Dragon Magazine special edition “Fantasia Battle Royale” (Fujimi Shobo).
- 2008 : Serialized “Saber Marionette i -Neogene-“ in “Monthly Dragon Age” (Fujimi Shobo).
- 2014 : Hiroshi Negishi launches “AIC Project” (later Saber Project). The final license for this series is centralized in the company.
- 2016 : AIC project, company name changed to “Saber Project”.

The first year of the Terra II
At the end of the 22th century, suffering from over-population the people of Earth sent ships deep into space in search of suitable to host human life. One of the ships The Mesopotamia went rogue and attacked it’s tripulation near a planet, a pod crash-landed in Terra II, Tokugawa Ieyasu, Gerhardt von Faust, Alexander Kissin, Joy Hulic, Yohei Wang, and Virrey Medici were the only people who survived, being only 6 male persons, they had to rely on cloning technology to not make the trip a waste.
The city-states of the planet Terra II are “Japoness” modeled after the Edo period in Japan, “Germania” modeled after Nazi Germany (Gartlant in the animation), “Petersburg” modeled after Russia, and “New Texas” modeled after the United States, “Xi’an” modeled on China, and “Romana” modeled on Italy.
